591 apodídōmi (from 575/apó, "from" and 1325/dídōmi, "give") – properly, give from, i.e. return (especially as a payment) as it focuses back on what prompts or justifies the recompense (whether for reward or judgment, note the force of the prefix, 575/apó).  591/apodídōmi ("repayment") is used positively (of giving rewards) or negatively (for returning retribution).
