1868 épainos (from 1909/epí, "on, fitting," which intensifies 136/aínos, "praise") – properly, fitting (apt) praise, i.e. accurate acknowledgment (appropriate commendation, recognition).  This term implies enthusiastic acknowledgment of what deserves hearty praise.
