Cognate: 1253 diákrisis (from 1252/diakrínō, see there) – properly, thorough judgment, particularly discernment which distinguishes "look-alikes" (things that only appear to be the same).  Note the intensifying force of the prefix (1223/diá.)  See also1252 (diakrínō).
